With my new poll created (what is the longest time you have sat and watched television), I received some results that were pretty shocking. Out of my choices, the 1-4 hours and 4-8 hours were most popular. There was also a good percent of 12-24 hours of watching television, which is spending a whole day in bed! Out of all my results, I found no one to have not spend any time watching a show or movie. Now, watching television can also mean playing a video game on the screen of a television so that might increase the answers of those who didn't realize the other options included. Watching television for a whole 24 hours means that you did not do anything for a full day but sit on your butt or lay down. It also probably involved some kind of snacks as well so that doesn't help either. Many people don’t really see any harm in laying down, staying home, and watching television. However, they don’t realize the harm that is caused to their body, eyes, head, etc in the long run! It was crazy to see people admitted to watching a screen for about 24 hours in a day and doing nothing else to me but it is the truth. I used to spend the time laying down for hours as well, but ever realize how lazy and unenergetic you feel after? Now that I am hardly home, I feel like I have energy to do everything and spending one hour in front of a television or computer screen already gives me a headache. Hope you guys find this poll useful and realize what something so simple is doing to you, your body, and your health in the long run!

http://www.livestrong.com/article/46320-obesity-children-technology/

In this article, I found how much technology affects obesity and also how the rates of obesity have increased ever since the rise of the technology we have today. Not many people realize the harms to our health because of technology. One of the main ones being obesity. Many people spend hours sitting on their chair and either work on a computer, laptop, phone, or just simply watch television. Now we have a rise in the number of obese and over weight children in our society today. As stated in the article, technology can present us with convenience, valuable information, and entertainment. Which is the reason why everyone loves it and no one sees the harms in technology. However, it should not be interfering with our daily lives and exercise.

Many other “problems” technology has brought to cause obesity besides television and electronics are kids getting dropped off to school today rather than walking and teens driving their cars instead of peddling a bicycle. Obesity is just one of the many health issues. Other problems include type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, cholesterol and joint problems are results of the overweight children. It is also common to become an obese adult if obese during adolescence years.

These problems will not go away until we at least realize where the harm comes from. I have found myself sitting on the couch watching a movie, and texting on my phone and finishing a whole bag of chips. Then not having any energy to go to the gym, like I do every day and decide to continue what I was doing for the rest of the night. And I have also realized the more you put exercise aside, the lazier you get day by day. It is healthy to minimize all technology use per day.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1557293/Mobile-phones-dumbing-down-brain-power.html

I found an article on how mobile phones have an effect on the human brain today. When asked the average person has multiple accounts, passwords, and numbers to remember. For example, they all have to remember bank pin numbers, social security, passwords, number plates, etc. About two or three of each at least. Many people declared it is still hard for them to remember all this information even when they use the same passwords and pins usually (which is horrible for security reasons).

It was researched and brought up that an over reliance on technology is actually leading down to the ‘dumbing down of the brain.’ Everyone used to remember their close family and friends’ birthdays, as well as their phone numbers by heart. Now study showed that from the people living today only a third recall maybe three close family member birthdays and most can’t even remember their own landline number. The reason for this is because people are now relying on technology to remember everything for them instead. Technology is a great tool because it actually makes your job a lot easier and you have less to remember and worry about. However, the biggest problem with that is that research has shown the less you use of your memory, the poorer it becomes in the long run. Research showed the older people who didn’t grow up with this type of technology were able to remember a lot more information compared to those under the age of thirty years old that weren’t even able to recall their home phone numbers with out looking at their mobile phones or notes.

The reason technology is the topic that caught my interest is because it is an occurring problem we have today. I see it is getting worse and worse when my little baby cousins only want to play with electronic devices instead of their toys. Many other children have this problem today and instead of their parents trying to stop them, they actually buy an ipad for like a five year old to play with, which I find ridiculous. I look at technology from my own perspective, which I find the modern technology to be amazing and then find all the flaws in it that we don't even realize. For example, I realize how much staring at a phone can cause headaches, and really damage your eyes. It even creates a bad posture. From my own experiences, I also realized how much of our time actually goes to devices and online websites. I think this time can be used for doing so much better stuff like going out on a hike or going swimming, which is both healthy and beautiful. The reason I chose modern technology as my topic is because I hope to open up everyone's mind or at least make them realize how much technology can actually negatively affect one's life. It definitely has made me think twice about how I spend my time and all the different types of activities I can do instead. It is an amazing feeling once you actually get to do the activities. You feel a change in your mind of how great certain things are for your body, health, and mind.

Technology is ruining human contact!!

This picture is one of the many problems technology has created today. Everyone whether they are five or fifty, are always found on their phones, laptops, and other devices. It has gotten so bad that I even see children (about two years old) playing with ipads and iphones all the time as well. Besides the fact that these people are spending so much of their and brain activity on these devices, they are taking sweet time with their loved ones away too. I have witnessed multiple times that friends get together to hang out, yet end up texting other people. Or when families are at dinner, instead of talking to one another like they used to, they are either texting and focused on their phones or they are watching tv. This creates no bond between family or friends. Another issue with technology and texting is that many people have the ability to get a hold of someone in seconds because of emails, text messages, and phone calls. This is a great feature but again it rarely leaves room for one on one contact in person.

How Does Technology Affect Family Communication?

Technology impacts our daily lives and we don’t even realize it. Technology is great and extremely useful now a days and there are a lot of neat ways to use it. However, it can also ruin your life in multiple ways. For starters, the time that was spent between humans in one on one contact has definitely lowered. Many families hardly spend time together because they are all so focused on their ipads, phones, etc. Many studies have showed how the internet and social websites can isolate a child even more because of all they time the spend on websites such as face book and myspace. All these websites even create an unhealthy addiction for teens that can cause trouble and issues. Such issues would include meeting up with a stranger they meet on the internet or stepping up and talking behind each other’s back on the internet. This can cause fights that lead from a simple online conversation to a big deal at school, work, or on the street.

Besides online sites, the only time families do sit next to each other all they do is watch tv for hours without saying one word to one another. The internet has made the world a smaller place, which is nice to reach someone in a blink of a second. However, wider for the one-on-one relationships. It is extremely disastrous for the family life at home. With the use of technology, families actually spend more time face timing or web camming instead of actually talking to one another in person. I know I have spend multiple minutes on my phone at dinner before as well, which is why it bothers me now. It is taking so much of our precious time and we hardly even realize it.
