I went to my first poetry reading couple weeks ago. The speaker was Jeffrey McDaniel. It is very sad to say we live in a world that most children and teenagers aren’t introduced to social gatherings and readings like that today. I remember the only times going to stuff like that was when I would run into a sign at the library for having a social reading there by accident as a little girl. I have never to this day seen any advertisement of any kind, such as an online ad or on television of any gatherings of those sorts. It is pretty sad that all our younger children and even older care about are materialist ideas and they put a value on devices you can purchase. Going to this event just started off as a class assignment, however getting there and actually seeing how nice it was to be back at a reading felt great. I never realized how much you can laugh at a poetry reading before either. It ended up being something different, it was nice to go with some friends, laugh, and even meet the writer. It ended up being a great experience and I actually am more interested in events on and off campus where you can go out and meet new people, make friends, and enjoy your time with people who share the same interests and passions with you. I enjoy joining clubs and groups for the same reason of being able to actually talk to one another about education related topics rather than the media and what is going on today with the different types of uprising technology.
